Who I am

I live in Perth Western Australia and have recently retired from my 8-5 life of the last 39+ years. I am married with two grown up kids that have flown the nest so have lots of free time to pursue my passions and hence looking forward to developing my photography skills.

I have no formal training in art and everything I know about taking photographs is based on my own experience, a few books on composition and selected works of renowned photographers, and You Tube videos. As part of my retirement plan, I have just joined the local photography club and looking forward to showing my work to fellow photographers and having them plus an accredited photographic judge, critique my work, and hopefully, see my photography improve.

I started taking photographs with an old East German Praktica SLR camera that I inherited from my Dad back in 1980 and then progressed to more sophisticated kit as my disposable income increased. Needless to say the quality of my photographs has not kept pace with the amount of money I have been pouring into my hobby! Hopefully I have reached a plateau in spending (I really can’t think of another camera, lens or gadget I need) and the quality of my images will increase as I spend more time taking photos.

As you will see from my photo gallery my photographs cover a wide range of genres, perhaps the next few years will define what genre I focus on, or perhaps I will continue to be a jack of all trades and master of none. As long as I enjoy it, that’s all that counts.

I hope you enjoy looking at my images and reading my occasional blog. Please feel free to contact me via the contact page to provide any feedback you have on my images (constructive criticism much appreciated) or if you have any queries about the images you see (or the places I’ve visited).
